Passionate policy makers, business leaders and community figures met last month to discuss supporting Autism in the workplace.

The “Working with Autism” event was arranged by Autism East Midlands and took place at Rolls-Royce’s Learning and Development in Derby.

Speakers included MPs, Business Leaders and members of staff from the charity and the event focused on the theme of “What can we do but, more importantly, what can we do differently?”

In an impassioned speech Jacob Moss (pictured) discussed his work as an Apprentice Engineer at Fernite of Sheffield, and his views on autism in the workplace.

He said:  “We are autistic and we are here to stay.

“We have our quirks and just like anyone else need help to achieve our full potential but if you let us we can achieve great things”.

Alongside Fernite of Sheffield the employers attending included Ashgate Hospicecare, Bombardier, D2N2, Derby College, Derbyshire County Council, Gelards, HCB Solicitors, Home-Start Derby, Loates, Pattonair Holdings Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Smith Cooper, Sunshine Recruitment and Unite.
